Dr. Brian Willson, DDS (right) of Fayetteville is congratulated by Dr. Carl Misch, Clinical Professor and Co-director, Oral Implantology at Temple University, Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Willson was recognized for his achievements in dental implant surgery by the International Congress of Oral Implantologists last week in San Francisco. The ICOI fellowship is conferred on select members based upon recommendations’ of a jury of internationally recognized eminent oral implantologists.

Dr. Willson is one of only two dentists in Fayetteville recognized by the ICOI for their expertise in dental implant technology. According to a U.S. study, only 5 percent of dentists worldwide are formally trained for implants. “Implants are becoming the natural choice for tooth replacement, and it is imperative that dentists who perform implant surgery are adequately trained and experienced,” Dr. Willson opined. “ICOI membership signifies a member’s continuous study and training in implantology. The selection process for fellowship is very rigorous, and I am very proud to have received that honor.” According to Dr. Willson, implants are one of the most effective methods of replacing teeth. They restore self confidence and quality of life to many patients. “Implants are basically substitutes for natural tooth roots,” Dr. Willson stated. “They can replace individual missing teeth in situations where a standard bridge would not work well, and they are especially good for patients who cannot wear full dentures because of gagging or severe bone loss. Modern implants have excellent success rates, and can often mean the difference between a patient having teeth and the patient going without anything.”
